Shubha Chaki

About Me

Ms. Shubha Chaki was initiated into Hindustani Classical music at the tender age of 4 by her aunt Smt Sheela Das who is a reputed vocalist in Kolkata (West Bengal, INDIA) and was then a disciple of the Rabindrasangeet exponent Lt. Smt. Maya Sen. Shubha continued her learning with Smt. Bijali Kar Roy Choudhury for another couple of years before she moved to Pune (Maharashtra, INDIA).

She was fortunate enough to receive training of the extempore-style Khayal gayaki in the tradition of Gwalior Gharana, the Gharana which is considered to be the oldest and richest of all Gharanas in India, under the tutelage of Late Pt. Gangadhar Buwa Pimpalkhare at Pune who was Guru-Brother to Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. She received further training in the field from several luminaries like Pt. Bhalerao Neelkant, Vijay Deshpande and the exponent Dr. Smt. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. Subsequently, she continued her training from the very accomplished vocalist Dr. Vikas Kashalkar of Gwalior Gharana who is disciple of guru Pt. Gajananrao Joshi, a stalwart of this Gharana himself.

People often describe her music as – “Shubha’s voice has the power to touch souls and heal!”
